Life Resources Trains Youth in First Aid and CPR

Life Resources has embarked on First Aid training for the at-risk youth in our care. All of the residents in our care are in the process of learning First Aid and CPR/AED (automated external defibrillator) training. These programs are designed to give each youth the confidence to respond in an emergency situation with skills that can save a life.

Led by certified instructor Mike Lamie, the first phase of training has focused on training in first aid, learning from an accredited program from the American Red Cross. This course teaches each youth how to provide care for injuries -- at home, work, school or around the neighborhood -- until advanced medical personnel arrives. Other skills include determining unconsciousness, treating cuts, scrapes, and burns, controlling bleeding, treating injuries to bones, muscles, and joints, and preventing and caring for sudden illness, including heat and cold emergencies.
To date, over thirty four of Life Resources residents have passed their First Aid certification.

The next phase of training will focus on CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training. CPR is an emergency procedure used for people that are in cardiac arrest. CPR involves physical interventions to create artificial circulation through rhythmic pressing on the patient's chest to manually pump blood through the heart through chest compressions.

The automated external defibrillator (AED) is a computerized medical device that can check a person’s heart rhythm. It can recognize a rhythm that requires a shock, and advise the rescuer when a shock is needed.
The residents in this training program have shown great enthusiasm as evidenced by their high certification success rates. They look to go to the next step in attaining their CPR/AED certifications. This is another skill set that Life Resources is teaching to equip our youth with life skills they can learn and use in their lives.

The mission of Life Resources, Inc. is to serve adolescents and their families who are at risk of, or experiencing a crisis in their lives. Life Resources is dedicated to transforming troubled youth who are in despair and have thus lost their way to those filled with hope that will serve themselves and society by giving them the opportunity to develop the intellectual, emotional and behavioral skills necessary to become positive, caring, constructive members of the community.
